Suffolk man arrested in Hampton

A Suffolk man has been arrested in connection with a Hampton murder that occurred on Wednesday.

Jayson Alyosha Newkirk, 26, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of murder, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a Hampton Police news release.

The victim, 42-year-old Antoine Randolph McIntyre, was shot at about 11:37 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of West Queen Street. Police officers and paramedics who responded to the scene found McIntyre lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. Sept. 16.

Newkirk has previously been convicted in Hampton of distributing cocaine, possession of cocaine and assault and battery.
