On Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, the Lord called home one of his faithful servants, Vann Augustus Felton Sr. He was born on Nov. 27, 1929, to the late Elmer Felton Sr. and Mamie Jordan in Tyner, N.C.

Vann was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Planters Peanuts (Kraft) and Suffolk Public Schools.

He was a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, where he served diligently on both the Senior and Male Usher Boards for many years until his health began to fail.

Vann leaves behind to celebrate his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Essie Mae Felton; two sons, Vann Felton Jr. and Eric Felton (Valerie); daughter, Aleshia Felton; sisters, Margaret Lewis and Augustine Copeland; six grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Mr. Felton’s funeral will take place 11 a.m. today at Metropolitan Baptist Church, and he will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional funeral services entrusted to T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Inc.
