It was yet another chapter in the topsy-turvy saga of the 2012-2013 Metro Athletic Conference season.

Isle of Wight Academy authored that passage Monday night with a 60-58 upset of Atlantic Shores Christian, one of the best public or private basketball teams in Hampton Roads.

Nathan Sivertson’s short jumper as time expired gave IWA the win, the Chargers’ first in more than 20 contests against the Seahawks.

Just seconds earlier, Atlantic Shores’ Brehon Britt had hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 58. But IWA took possession and set up its offense for the final shot.

Sivertson finished the game with 27 points. Teammate Hunter Triplett was 4-for-4 from the foul line in the second half, including two with 34.7 seconds remaining to preserve a five-point IWA lead. Austin Rogers had 11 points and was also perfect from the line in three attempts.

Shores’ Brian Kelley led his team with 20 points; Britt had 17.

IWA dominated the boards, outrebounding the Seahawks 51-24, including 18-8 on their respective offensive ends. Shores was 22-for-55 from the field. IWA shot 45 percent, 24-for-53.

IWA raised its record to 16-4, 7-3 in the Metro. Shores fell to 15-5 and suffered its first conference loss of the year against nine wins.
