Suffolk police have confirmed they are investigating a homicide after finding a 20-year-old man dead along Respass Beach Road Tuesday.

Antonio Carl Boone, of the 6000 block of Brookwood Drive, was found lying in the grass east of the sidewalk just north of the intersection of Respass Beach Road and Burbage Lake Circle after residents called police to report shots fired. He died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Norfolk.

The shooting prompted a lockdown at nearby Northern Shores Elementary School. Police officers were on the school grounds for the rest of the day, and instruction continued while students stayed in their classrooms.
