Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast, in partnership with TowneBank, Walmart and media sponsors including Tidewater Parent Magazine, WAVY-TV 10 and Face of Fox43 Rhonda Arrington will take a bite out of hunger by hosting the Helping Hands Food Drive with collection points at all local area Walmarts on May 4 from 9 a.m. to noon.

During this time, Girl Scouts will collect nonperishable food items and load them into Foodbank trucks. The Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast invites the community to bring as many nonperishable food items as possible to local Walmarts to help stock the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula and Food Bank of the Albemarle.

In preparation for the Helping Hands food drive, Girl Scouts will also be holding collection drives at schools, churches and other venues in the community as early as April 1 to collect food items to bring to collection sites on May 4.

Hunger affects many residents of our community who may be homeless, parents working for low wages, residents suffering from the recent loss of a job or senior citizens living on fixed incomes.
