Following are this week’s Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week nominees:

  • Devin Coyne, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy softball — She threw 15 strikeouts against Hampton Roads Academy on Thursday to contribute to a 10-2 victory. On Friday, she got after Portsmouth Christian School on offense, going 2-for-3 in a 12-1 win.
  • Morgan Lowers, sophomore for Nansemond River High School softball — She went 4-for-4 with a run batted in and a double against Deep Creek High School at the end of a stretch in which the Lady Warriors played three games in three days. Her contribution to the offensive spark at the bottom of the sixth inning helped put the game away.
  • Shawn Moose, freshman for Suffolk Christian Academy baseball — He threw nine strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings in the season-opener against the Beach Breakers on Tuesday. He also hit an important double to help the Knights win 10-7.
  • Hannah Washburn, sophomore for King’s Fork High School soccer — She scored twice on the road against Lake Taylor High School on Tuesday to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory.
