Florian takes youth Arena title

Rebounding from last week’s costly disqualification, Garrett Manes of Powhatan wired the field for his sixth win of the season in a 30-lapper for the Youth Series in the Arena Racing USA events in Richmond on Saturday.

Timmy Tyrrell was the runner-up, followed by Olivia Florian, Camden Testerman and Aubrey Hill. Hunter Taylor and Autumn Weaver were sixth and seventh.

An unofficial look at the final points tally, dropping each driver’s two worst outings, shows Suffolk’s Florian claiming the 2012-13 Youth Series title by seven points over Hill, 279-272. Weaver was third with 270. Manes, who had the championship well in hand before last week’s turn of events, ended up fourth with 265. Taylor was fifth, 12 behind Manes.

Florian’s older brother, Adam, won back-to-back Pro Series titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10.
