The Suffolk Humane Society’s Mutt Strut is coming up this weekend, and it’s not too late to plan to strut your mutt at the fundraising event.

The event will be held Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Sleepy Hole Park. It will include pet- and people-friendly vendors, food, canine demonstrations, animal rescue organizations and more.

However, the most important part of the event — the part that raises money for the Suffolk Humane Society to continue its work in the community — is the pledge walk.

“We need people to pledge to walk,” said Kay Hurley, director of community outreach for the Suffolk Humane Society. “Everything else is nice, but that’s our prime purpose that day.”

Folks can sign up on the society’s website, www.suffolkhumanesociety.com, and collect pledges from their friends and family.

“That’s the purpose for the event, so we can raise money and continue the programs we have and expand them and do so much more for the community.”

The humane society works to help homeless animals find homes, runs low-cost spay/neuter programs and educates people about the humane treatment of animals.

Folks can walk individually or as part of a “pack.” You do not have to have a dog with you to participate.

People who cannot attend can be virtual walkers and still support the society.

The walk will be led by last year’s top fundraisers — Chelsey Atkinson, Fran Duman and Heather Noell.

Registration is $15, with a suggested $50 minimum in collected pledges due the day of the event. The rest of the event’s activities are free to the public.
