A Suffolk man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Thursday for the robbery of a Pizza Hut delivery person in December 2011.

DeShaun Tyrell Griffin was one of three defendants in the case. The other two already have been convicted, and one was sentenced last year.

The incident occurred at 129 S. Fourth St. about 7:44 p.m. Dec. 12, 2011. The victim arrived to deliver pizzas and saw a man motion to him, say the pizza was for him and begin patting his pockets as if he was looking for money.

Then the victim noticed two other men, one standing to his right and another approaching with a handgun and demanding money.

The victim turned over about $50, and the offenders then fled.

The victim identified fellow defendant Trashion Brown from a photo lineup. Police canvassed the area and arrested Brown, Griffin and Demetrius Bazemore, who were charged with robbery, use of a firearm, conspiracy to commit robbery and criminal street gang participation.

Brown admitted to police that the three had talked about robbing a business but settled on robbing a pizza delivery person. Police found a BB gun pistol at the home of Griffin, who admitted participating in the robbery.

After further investigation, the Suffolk Police Neighborhood Enforcement Team learned that Griffin and Brown were involved in the Lloyd Street Gang and that the crime was committed for the benefit of the gang.

Brown was sentenced last year to three and a half years. Bazemore is set for sentencing June 20.
