Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

 

  • Jake Crowell, junior for Lakeland High School cross country: He took first place among all male runners at the conference championships on Tuesday by setting a new personal record despite catching a cramp around the first mile of the 3.1-mile race. His time of 17:43.31 cut nearly 11 seconds off his previous best.
  • TyQuan Weston, junior for King’s Fork High School football: He helped his team go undefeated at home in the regular season for the first time ever on Friday by scoring three touchdowns in three different ways. His first came on a 50-yard reception, his second on a 3-yard run and his third on a 79-yard kickoff return.
  • Caylin Harris, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball: She showed why she was named to the conference all-tournament team all week long. In Tuesday’s opening round win, she had nine kills and eight aces, in Thursday’s semifinals she led the team with 17 kills and in the finals she led again with 12 kills to with three blocks.
  • Jake Grady, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: He took his opportunity of increased snaps on Friday and ran with it for 130 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. His contributions helped fuel a 63-14 win over visiting Hampton Roads Academy on senior night.
