Golf tourney raises money for toys

The second annual Toys for Tots golf tournament proved to be successful on Saturday morning despite cold and damp conditions.

“It far exceeded my expectations based on the weather, and it was bigger and better than last year,” tournament coordinator Joe Kitchen said.

He anticipated the weather limiting turnout to five or six teams, but 14 showed up, including 56 players in all.

For Toys for Tots, the event raised more than $650 and three Toys for Tots boxes full of toys, including approximately 120 toys.

“I am really, really pleased with the support,” said John Woleben, coordinator of the Suffolk Toys for Tots Local Community Organization.

Due in part, to weather, the tournament will be moved up to Nov. 15 next year.

Following are the flight-winning team members for Saturday’s second annual Toys for Tots golf tournament:

First flight: Mike Therrien, Buddy Winslow, Phil Winslow Sr. and Phil Winslow Jr.

Second flight: Russ Chantry, Garland Hatcher, Jim Nelson and Weeks Parker

Third flight: Linda Brown, Jeff Gardy, Joe Kitchen and Titus Mohler
