Former Warriors put up points in Pro Am games

Nansemond River alum and current Elizabeth City State point guard Marquie Cooke scored 26 points Saturday as his Crossover Promotions team defeated The Peninsula/Christopher Newport 88-67 in a Hampton Roads 7 Cities Pro Am league game at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk.

Cooke, a rising junior at ECSU, and Hampton University guard Darrion Pellum co-led Crossover Promotions (4-0) with 26 points each. Crossover Promotions play again Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against Fidonce Player Development at Booker T. Washington.

Fidonce Player Development (2-2) includes a number of Old Dominion players, including Nick Wright (Nansemond River), who scored eight points Saturday in a 67-61 loss against the Barbershop Boys (3-1). The Boys were led by VMI’s Austin Kenon’s 20 points and six three-pointers.

During Sunday’s play in Norfolk, Tose/Freeman Ballers/Newport News Apprentice (2-2) defeated Jake’s Volunteers (2-2) 81-55. Nansemond River and Apprentice School graduate Eric Joe scored 11 points for Tose/Freeman Ballers/N.N. Apprentice.

Quadruple headers will be played Saturday and Sunday at Booker T. Washington starting at 2 p.m. each day.
