IWA mops up at home

Senior Matt Manner was 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Isle of Wight Academy defeated Norfolk Christian in come-from-behind fashion, 12-3, at home on Tuesday.

The Chargers trailed the Ambassadors 3-0 after four solid innings behind starting pitcher David Caravas. A seven-run rally in the fifth inning put IWA up for good.

The Chargers’ Jacob Mintz was 3-for-3 at the plate to pace IWA. He singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings and scored twice.

Alec Wonders pitched six innings, scattering 11 hits and allowing three earned runs. The sophomore struck out two and walked one.

Carson Robertson, Travis Jones and Grant Taylor all contributed two RBIs. Jones pitched a scoreless seventh in relief of Wonders.

Caravas was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 4-2/3 innings, walked two and struck out three.

IWA added five runs in the bottom of the sixth. A Manner single got things going, bringing home Chase Phillips. Rylee Williams then singled, scoring Mintz.
