The Suffolk Nansemond Historical Society is busy preparing for its annual heirloom sale, which will benefit the renovation and maintenance of the society’s headquarters, the Phillips-Dawson House on Bank Street.

“This is probably the largest show we have ever had,” said Lynn Cross, chairman of the sale and vice president of the historical society. “We have a tremendous variety.”
Cross said many individuals in town, as well as the estates of Esther Kincaid and Frances Hobbs, have donated items to the show.

“We’re really grateful for the people who donated so many lovely items,” Cross said. “It’s kind of an eclectic collection.”

Items available for sale include mirrors, china, silver tea service, antiques and reproductions, hand-painted furniture, a set of dollhouse furniture, wall art, lamps, needlepoint pillows, a colonial candle mold, brass urns, clocks, books — including old Suffolk High School yearbooks from a variety of years — and more.

Even items including an indoor putting green, a bee skep and a small, white picket fence are available.

Cross said the society is grateful for volunteers who have helped price the items.

“We just have a lot of items that are really useful and reasonably priced,” she said. “Please come and find something that tickles your fancy.”

The sale will be held Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sept. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Phillips-Dawson House, 137 Bank St.
