No excuse for Lakeland problems

To the editor:

I had recently enrolled my son at Lakeland High School for his junior year. I was so glad to be back on “home” soil after living in Virginia Beach since 2008.

I have to say I was very disappointed when his registration was not completed on time as promised, I waited in the guidance office for more than two hours while students continually interrupted counselors by entering through the main office and directly speaking to counselors, avoiding signing in at guidance as I and others were instructed.

I have called the office several times, only to have phone ring continually with no response until I was disconnected. I have entered the building freely and easily without concern to security or safety of any kind detected. “Just sign in here.”

There were explicit writings and phone numbers on cafeteria tables that should have been eradicated before the start of any school year. I have also received private information concerning another student (not my son) who is enrolled there.

It’s no wonder the school is not accredited if this is behavior students view as being acceptable.

Parents, our children are our “stars,” not theirs. Get it together Lakeland!

I know the teachers have a hard job to do. I’ve seen it firsthand. Do they really have to handle everything else?
