Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Chandler Bergeron, sophomore for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy cross country: She has had multiple wins this season and continued an outstanding year with another win during Thursday’s home meet. She finished with a time of 19:19.83, well ahead of her nearest competitor. Her efforts helped the NSA girls team place second.
  • Leo Outland, senior for Nansemond River High School golf: After shooting an 82 on Monday in the 2014 Region 4A South golf tournament, he produced his best round of the season on Tuesday to qualify for the state tournament for the first time in his career. His two-day score of 160 was tied for ninth-best out of all the golfers in the region.
  • Deshaun Wethington, junior for King’s Fork High School football: He turned in another stellar performance in Friday night’s 35-11 win over visiting Lakeland High School, needing only a quarter to do most of his work. He carried the ball 11 times for 117 yards and three touchdowns and also scored on a 94-yard kickoff return.
