“It’s a wonderful holiday tradition,” said Lakita Watson, parks and recreation director.

Visitors will be able to watch as the 32-foot tree and several surrounding decorations light up, purchase tasty treats from Stillwater Tea Room and enjoy seasonal music from local choirs, including a choral group from John F. Kennedy Middle School.

Kids can write and decorate a letter to Santa, sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas and visit the train station museum with their parents in tow.

Tourism Manager Theresa Earles said “golden Santa tickets” will be distributed and called by number, so children can enjoy the rest of the activities while waiting their turn to visit Santa.

Park-and-walk will be available at the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St., and First Baptist Church parking lot, across from 237 N. Main St. A shuttle service will run from the Godwin Courts Building parking lot from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
