A man suffered serious injuries Tuesday after driving into the back of a tow truck stopped on Route 58 for a previous accident.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to the eastbound accident near the Route 460 exit after dispatch received a call at 5:43 p.m., stated Tim Kelley, a spokesman for both agencies.

The driver had to be airlifted via Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General after medical assessment and treatment by first responders, according to Kelley. No other injuries were reported.

The accident, which remains under investigation, closed both eastbound lanes of 58 at the location, with traffic diverted to 460.
