King’s Fork High School’s girls’ basketball team is likely eager to move on to its next game on Friday after a rough 57-44 loss to defending Group 4A state champion Lake Taylor High School on Saturday in the Bulldog Showcase.

“Give some credit to Lake Taylor. They forced us to play an ugly game, and that’s what we did — played an ugly game,” Lady Bulldogs coach Maurice Fofana said.

His team fueled the circumstances by not scoring, not shooting well and not defending well.

“Anything you can possibly think of, we didn’t do,” Fofana said.

King’s Fork sophomore Amesha Miller led her team with 19 points, sophomore Cydney Nichols added seven points, and senior Imani Lewis and freshman Cam Harris had six apiece.

Meanwhile, Lake Taylor’s Carlesha Farris had a game-high 22 points, and Joanne Williams recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 15 boards and 11 steals.

The Lady Bulldogs were unable to recreate their performance from last year, when they posted a 65-63 home win over the Lady Titans.

Following a break for exams this week, King’s Fork (12-3, 3-1) travels to Phoebus High School on Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Phantoms on Jan. 13 and fell 55-36, not adjusting well to the absence of injured Imani Lewis, who has since returned to the lineup.

The 19-point loss was a surprising result, given how dominant King’s Fork has been in the conference, but Fofana said he’s trying to get his players to focus on what’s important.

“I don’t think we need to prove anything,” he said. “I just think we need to win.”
