Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Noah Colyer, freshman for Lakeland High School volleyball: He spearheaded a strong service game that led the Cavaliers, in their conference opener, to a 25-6, 25-22, 25-10 home win over I.C. Norcom High School on Thursday. Of his team’s 23 aces, he led the way with eight. Despite the Cavs’ straight sets Tuesday loss to visiting Nansemond River High School, he still served well and had great passing.
  • Cole Christiansen, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: Despite his team’s 41-24 Thursday road loss to St. Anne’s-Belfield School, he gave an inspired performance. Offensively, he had 10 carries and led the Saints with 128 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he led his team with nine tackles and also had two sacks and an interception. On special teams, he blocked a punt.
  • Selina Davis, junior for King’s Fork High School field hockey: She had a breakout performance on Wednesday that led to her team’s first win of the season. The Lady Bulldogs had scored only two goals this season prior to last week, but she contributed two on Wednesday to facilitate a 3-0 victory over host Southampton High School.
