Suffolk residents saw a few moments of sun here and there between a handful of showers on Saturday, and the next few days will bring more of the same.

National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Proch said Saturday that Sunday and Monday will bring scattered showers. Sunday also is expected to have fairly high wind — about 25 to 30 miles per hour, he said.

Wind speeds and the chance of rain will drop after noon Monday, and a long two weeks of mostly poor weather will be over after that.

“On Tuesday, we’re clearing out pretty well,” Proch said. “We’ll have some chances of rain, and maybe see a little bit of the sun. That will be nice.”

Sunday’s winds coupled with the saturated ground could bring the threat of trees coming down, but Proch did not expect that to be widespread.

A continuing concern through Tuesday morning is tidal flooding at the Kimberly Bridge in the 700 block of North Main Street. Partial or complete closures of the road could be necessary during each high tide cycle until then, according to city spokesman Tim Kelley.

High tide will take place about 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday. The road could be flooded for about two hours on either side of the high tide.

The city remains under a coastal flood warning until 6 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
