It’s time once again for men across Suffolk to borrow their wives’ or sisters’ clothes, strap on their high heels, dab on some makeup and help raise money for the fight against cancer.

Brandon Carter was the winner of the 2015 Womanless Beauty Pageant. Some of last year’s contestants will be returning for this year’s show.

The Nansemond River Pilot Club’s Womanless Beauty Pageant fundraiser is back for its 16th year, and organizers hope it will be as sweet as the Southern “belles” who will be competing.

“Last year, we raised a little over $11,000,” said Becky Adams of the Pilot Club. “This year, we’re trying to get to $15,000.”

The event will take place March 5 at Liberty Baptist Church Recreation Building, 116 Romans Road. It will once again be catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, but this time Carrabba’s is even more involved.

“One of our contestants is actually going to be one of the wait staff that works at Carrabba’s,” Adams said. “They said one of their guys wanted to be in it.”

A few other contestants are lined up, but the club is still on the lookout for more brave men to put on women’s clothes, strut their stuff, perform a talent and answer interview questions.

In addition, silent auction donations, sponsors and members of the audience are needed, as well.

Adams said the event is showing no signs of slowing down past its Sweet 16.

“As long as we can keep getting contestants, we’ll keep it going,” Adams said.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. that night, with dinner at 6 and the show at 7.

Tickets cost $20 and are available at Suffolk Insurance, 202 Market St., during normal business hours.
