Support needed for Clean Power Plan

Historic sites are facing danger, especially the ones located along the coast, like Jamestown Settlement.

The city of Norfolk features more than 144 miles of shoreline along lakes, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. These natural waterways provided food and transportation to Native Americans who thrived in the area. European colonists also recognized the natural advantages of this land and made Norfolk one of the first European settlements in North America.

Sea level rise has become a serious threat to coastal communities in Hampton Roads. We are facing a rapid countdown if we don’t act on climate.

The Clean Power Plan is a necessary response to climate change and an opportunity for Virginia to become a leader in clean energy. Virginia needs to proceed with development of the regulations while a stay is in place.

Virginia is an American history icon and has seen more battles than any other state. Let’s take a stance to protect our precious state and all it has to offer. Urge Congress to act now and protect our coastal communities from harmful threats to sea level rise and carbon pollution.

Both of our senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, are in support of the Clean Power Plan. I strongly believe that Virginia will proceed in implementing a strong carbon reduction plan.
