Remember the name, Harry Giles III

Everybody has hoop dreams, but not many of those dreams pan out.

There are 30 teams in the NBA, with an average of 12 men on each team. That’s only 360 spots available for millions of aspiring hoopers.

But, I feel like my “little” cousin may have the chance to make it to the big leagues.

His name is Harry Giles III — get used to hearing that name in the next few months. He is looking to start at power forward for Duke this fall.

However, he’s not your typical power forward. He isn’t a dense, down-in-the-post bruiser. However, his body composition resembles the changing culture of today’s “big man” position.

Standing at 6 feet, 10 inches and at about 215 pounds, Harry has a slim, agile frame. However, what sets him apart is his versatility and handles — yes, the boy can “shake and bake.”

I always watch his highlight reels with my mouth agape as he shakes guards and big men alike with such ease. If that isn’t enough, his jumper is wet and he slam dunks with extreme intensity.

Trust me, these are not hyperboles.

For several years, Harry remained the No. 1 player in the country.

He has even had the opportunity to compete for Team USA. He also has played for Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul’s AAU team, CP3 All Stars.

However, Harry’s intensity has brought some serious injuries. He was sidelined twice for an entire year for knee injuries, both as a student at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, N.C. and at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va.

But each time he has rebounded, and the colleges still kept blowing up his phone.

Last November, Harry made his commitment to Duke on ESPN. He chose the school over UNC, Wake Forest and Kentucky, among several notable others.

My conscience tells me not to side with the Devils, but I just may have to sell my “soul” — I couldn’t resist — during my cousin’s campaign with them.

I hope to catch one of his games this year and let loose with excitement. My goal is to be captured on live TV and to become a nationally recognized gif or meme. I am speaking it into existence!

All jokes aside, I couldn’t put into words how proud I am of my “baby” cousin. I remember the days we used to rip-and-run in my grandmother’s den and thinking “this boy is going to be tall one day.”

I guessed right.

I have never been jealous of the opportunities and doors that have been opened because of Harry’s gift with “the pill.” I pray nothing but the best for him and can’t wait for the day he shakes Adam Silver’s hand and begins his journey into the pros.

I love you, cuzzo — but you still can’t see me in a game of one-on-one.
