Richard Elijah “Dickie” Duck, 76, passed away on Sept. 4, 2017. He was born to the late Richard M. and Elsie Mae Saunders Duck. His daughter, Cynthia Duck Parker and a brother, William J. Duck, also predecease him.

He was a retired master sergeant E-8 from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service. Being a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, he was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous other awards for distinguished service. He also retired from owning and operating The Waterhole Restaurant & Grill for 37 years. He was a life member of the Sgt. Jayton D. Patterson USMC VFW Post 4411 Franklin, Loyal Order of Moose #141, Suffolk, and Moose Legion #199.

Dickie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Connie Ellis Duck; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl Duck Whitehurst, Teresa L. Duck, Angela Duck and Eddie Vaughan; grandchildren, Dawn, April, Travis, Yolanda, Thomas, Tara and Taylor; nine great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara Ann Duck Crawford (Curtis), Mary Duck Jones (Gerald) and Sarah Duck Crawford.

Dickie’s funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at noon at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Garza and Chaplain Tim Cormany officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with VFW honors at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sgt. Jayton D.
