Food Lion robbed

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in an armed robbery that took place Friday evening.

The robbery was reported at 6:24 p.m. at the Food Lion in the 1000 block of Portsmouth Boulevard, according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found a male suspect entered the business and robbed a cashier at gunpoint. The suspect received an undetermined amount of currency and fled in an unknown direction of travel by unknown means.

The suspect is described in the press release as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a black jacket and gray hoodie.

No one was injured during the robbery.
