Brian Atwood, propane operations manager of Parker Oil and Propane, assisted Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in securing two $500 grants from the Exxon Mobil Corporation’s Educational Alliance Program to support the academy.

The grants will be applied to the NSA Annual Fund, which supports the mission as well as the science and math educational programs of the school. These grants are two of the grants available to schools across the country served by Exxon and Mobil stations. The grants were made possible by funding from the Exxon Mobil Corporation.

“Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was one of four schools in the Western Tidewater area to receive these wonderful grants,” Atwood said. “Parker Oil & Propane values the work that NSA does in the areas of math and science education. Exxon Mobil and Parker Oil are committed to giving back and supporting our local community and we are very proud to support Nansemond-Suffolk Academy through funding from the Exxon Mobil Corporation,” Atwood said.

“NSA takes great pride in our math and science program,” NSA Head of School Deborah Russell said. “In the last three years, we enhanced our science, technology, engineering and math curriculum for students in pre-K through 12th grade, launched a state-of-the-art STEM Innovation Lab to provide a hands-on STEM learning environment for our students, hosted five weeks of summer camp dedicated to STEM and innovation and created a STEM internship program for our students. We are truly grateful for the partnership with and support of the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance and Parker Oil & Propane.”

Parker Oil & Propane met stringent eligibility criteria before applying for and being awarded this grant, including having a recognized commitment to provide a superior buying experience for customers.
