Former Nansemond River High School softball standout Katelyn Biando helped Virginia Wesleyan University repeat as NCAA Division III softball champions.

It has been one heck of a season for Biando and VWU, which earned its second consecutive title. The team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University to win the title May 29.

VWU took the series 2-1 in a best of three and defeated IWU 3-1 in the final game to secure the title. For the whole series, Biando collected two hits, a run and three RBIs. It was a great way to cap off a freshman season where Biando instantly made an impact. As a freshman, she was a part of the All-Conference team.

She ended up finishing her freshman season with an average of .331 to go along with 47 hits, 26 runs and 34 RBIs. All season long, Biando talked about how she wanted to step in and help VWU achieve another championship. It is safe to say that she did that and expects to be an even bigger contributor next season as a sophomore.

When Biando signed with VWU last year, she knew she was coming into an established program with high expectations. She knew that was the culture she wanted to be in and can now call herself an NCAA champion because of it.
