Lakeland wins third straight

The Lakeland High School boys’ basketball team has won its third consecutive game in a row after a Tuesday night win.

Lakeland went on the road Tuesday night to take on Deep Creek High School, where the Cavs grabbed a 79-66. Lakeland has gotten off to a start completely opposite of what it did last year. Experience is paying dividends early for the Cavs.

“We have come together as a team, and our chemistry is getting better each day,” junior Clint Wright Jr. said. “Everyone knows their role on the team. No one is trying to play superhero. During the summer we talked about how ready we were for the season and how expectations were going to be high, and we just wanted to live up to them.”

Raymond Bellamy led the team in scoring with 21 points, while Keimari Artis added 20. Lakeland had four players in double figures, as Wright added 12 and Quentin Livingston added 10. Bellamy added five assists, while Livingston had six rebounds.

Lakeland won’t play again until next Tuesday, when they take on Ocean Lakes High School on the road. The team wants to continue taking things one game at a time, despite being optimistic about the way they have been playing.

“One thing we go by is taking it one game at a time,” Wright said. “So, we are just going to get ready for the next one. We took our bumps and bruises last year, but this year — but this year will be different, because fear is absent and we are grinding for one goal.”
