Lady Bulldogs execute for a win

Late plays in the fourth quarter by the Lady Bulldogs secured a tough 54-53 win over Indian River High School Tuesday night.

King’s Fork High School’s girls’ basketball team improved to 11-3 on the season with the win. It was a big game for the Lady Bulldogs as they were able to complete the season sweep against a tough team.

With 31.4 seconds left to play in the game and down 53-49, Lady Bulldogs freshman Terrana Thornton hit a three-pointer to cut Indian River’s lead down to one. Indian River went to the line on the following possession and missed two free throws at the line. At six seconds left, Nylah Young grabbed the defensive rebound and marched down the floor, getting fouled at the 3.4-second mark. Young went on to hit the game-winning free throws, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 54-53 win.

Young finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds, with Alexis Banks contributing 12 points and 15 rebounds. King’s Fork will go on the road Friday to take on Hickory High School at 7 p.m.
