Catherine Butler-Thorne, 89, departed this life on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019. She was born on Aug. 1, 1929, to the late William and Hattie Mae Butler. A native of Suffolk, she attended Booker T. Washington High School and retired from Planters Peanuts in 1994 after 40 years of dedicated service.

She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.

Catherine was predeceased by her son, Rickey Thorne; sisters, Hattie Clark and Jean Palmer.

Catherine leaves to cherish the fondest of memories, her devoted husband of 68 years, Richard “QT” Thorne; children, Joan Thorne Hart, Robin Thorne, Terry Thorne and Jay Thorne, all of Suffolk; daughter-in-law, Sandra Bailey Thorne (Rickey); sister, Mary Harville of Baltimore, Md.; brother-in-law, James Thorne (June); eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life service will take place at noon Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Bethlehem Christian Church, and she will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services are entrusted to T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Inc.
