After an uncharacteristic game that resulted in a loss against Western Branch High School last Tuesday, King’s Fork High School was able to bounce back against Oscar Smith High School at home last Friday night.

King’s Fork grabbed a 51-33 win over the Lady Tigers, putting them at 14-4 on the season. Though this game wasn’t a big game in terms of magnitude, Coach Maurice Fofana was happy to see the way his team bounced back.

“When you’re dealing with a young team, you have to go through some ups and downs,” he said. “It was good for them to get that win, and any win we can add from here on out will be good for us.”

Nylah Young led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points, with Neecole Brown adding 10.

With three games left in the regular season, Fofana feels good about where the team is heading. After the Western Branch game, Fofana said he didn’t say anything to his team afterwards. That game pretty much explained itself, so the Lady Bulldogs knew they had to shake that game off and bounce back with a win against Oscar Smith.

The Lady Bulldogs will likely close out the regular season with a high seed in the regional playoffs. They feel like they are capable of making a deep playoff run.

“As long as our team shows we’re capable of playing against anyone,” Fofana said. “We are a young team that’s going to have to rely on some young players, but we feel confident about the group we have.”

Limiting turnovers is one thing King’s Fork would like to clean up before heading into the playoffs. Even in their wins, Fofana believes that the turnovers have been a bit too high, and with a couple of games left, the Lady Bulldogs want to fix that so it won’t be an issue once the playoffs are here.
