The Nansemond River High School football team recently went around to Suffolk schools to clean up the community.

During the spring, the Warriors football team has been finding ways to give back to the Suffolk community to make it better. Recently, the Warriors went around to some of the schools in North Suffolk to clean up the surrounding areas and the playgrounds.

“We pride ourselves on being great people on and off the field,” Coach Justin Conyers said. “We want to represent our school and our program the right way by going out and doing what we can to help the community.”

Conyers knows that to have a successful football program, things can’t be football 24/7. There are more things in life than just sports, and one of those things is being better people every day. Using the platform football gives them a way to do that.

“There is a small percentage of high school athletes that receive scholarships for athletics,” Conyers said. “So, it’s good to give them things and to teach these guys things they can use in the real world so that they can go out and be productive citizens.”

The Warriors were able to get to about seven schools, including Creekside Elementary School, Florence Bowser Elementary School and John Yeates Middle School. Along with picking up trash, the team put down new mulch in some of the school’s playgrounds and participated in field day with elementary students.

“It was a good time, and we felt good about what we were able to do,” Conyers said. “We were able to get everything done in one day. I’m proud of our efforts. I’m glad we were able to go out there and take the initiative in our communities.”
