Former Lady Bulldogs basketball standout Amesha Miller has transferred to compete her final two seasons of college basketball at Norfolk State University.

After spending two seasons at the University of North Carolina—Greensboro (UNCG), Miller will be back closer to home to play for NSU. Miller was looking for a fresh start to finish her college career out on a strong note and is looking forward to her new opportunity at NSU.

“I’m excited about the journey,” Miller said. “For my final years of college basketball, I wanted to finish strong, and I think I can do that at NSU.”

Miller decided to enter the NCAA’s transfer portal after her sophomore campaign. During her freshman season, she averaged 6.3 points per game and 3.1 rebounds. In her sophomore year, she appeared in 22 games and averaged 5.0 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Once her name hit the transfer portal, coaches from all over were reaching out to her. NSU was one of the schools that reached out and was a school Miller had thought highly of during her recruiting process out of high school. She felt that would be the best place for her.

“I felt like I was already familiar with the coaching staff,” Miller said. “I wanted a fresh start, and I felt like I owed it to them kind of because I didn’t go there straight out of high school. They’re familiar with my game. I knew the team was already good and just needed a few more pieces, and I’m just trying to come in and help.”

During last season, Miller knew it was time for a change when she started questioning if she wanted to continue playing basketball. She knew then a change of scenery could help. She still remains close with her former teammates and is thankful for her time at UNCG to help her grow to this point.

“It kind of affected me on and off the court,” Miller said. “You start to question yourself, and everything starts to fall like your school work and stuff, and I just felt like it was time for a change. My transition to NSU has been well, and I’m feeling good about where I am right now.”

Due to NCAA rules, Miller will have to sit out this season for NSU. So, she wants to take the year to be in the best shape possible while also getting the chance to compete against her teammates in practices. However, with the strong support system, Miller said everyone is excited for her to be closer to home.

At King’s Fork, Miller was an annual All-Conference, All-Region and All-State player. She is a multi-time Conference 17 Player of the Year. She helped King’s Fork to its first-ever state title appearance during the 2016-2017 season and finished her career surpassing 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Miller was also the winner of the 2016-2017 Suffolk News-Herald Female Winter Player of the Year award.
