Suffolk native Davon Grayson recently was placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs.

After a solid training camp, Grayson went down with a knee injury during the Chiefs’ first preseason game, and it has already sidelined him for a couple of weeks. It was later revealed this week the Chiefs were going to place him on injured reserve and waive him.

After clearing waivers, he returned back on the Chiefs, where he will rehab his knee throughout the rest of the year. Grayson had signed with the Chiefs back in February and has spent time with the team ever since then. He was going to battle for a spot on the team’s final 53-man roster, which featured 13 wide receivers who were also competing for the same thing.

Grayson entered the NFL in 2018, but an injury last year hampered his rookie season. Last season, he signed with the Chiefs after coming out of school undrafted. He is a graduate of East Carolina University, where he starred at wide receiver. At ECU, he is among the top receivers ever to play at the school in terms of rankings. He finished fifth all-time in receiving yards with 1,767, eighth in receptions with 135 and ninth in touchdowns with 13. He had a career-high 223 receiving yards in one game during his senior season. During his senior season, he was also a part of the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, compiled of the top wide receivers in the college football.

Unfortunately for Grayson, he battled injuries in college as well. However, if Grayson can prove to be healthy for an extended period of time, he will find himself on an NFL roster. It’s still possible Grayson could be signed by another NFL team this season if they want to get him in their building before next offseason. Kansas City is expected to be among the Super Bowl contenders this season.

In his time at King’s Fork, he was an All-District selection on both offense and defense. In his senior season, he had helped King’s Fork to what was its best record at that time and a playoff appearance.
