All about dogs

Monday was International Dog Day, and there was a lot of buzz about man’s best friend.

Most of the buzz happened at the North Main Street Chick-fil-A, where adoptable pups from the Isle of Wight County Animal Shelter and their volunteers manned the drive-through and collected donations, rubs and hugs from customers.

Appropriately enough, the Suffolk News-Herald just published an article in Sunday’s edition about the Pillows 4 Puppies fundraiser for Ruff Road Pet Rescue. Virginia Hughes, 11, and stepsisters Molly Winslow, 9, and Julia Winslow, 7, are making pillows to bring in needed donations for the pet rescue.

These pillows come with a number of pet-related designs and can be used for your pet, yourself or just for decoration. They help fund vet bills and other needs that keep Ruff Road Pet Rescue going, and it’s teaching three amazing young ladies about hard work, organization, teamwork, financial management and the importance of giving back. We think that’s a dog-gone good thing. You can find out more information by emailing pillows4rrpuppies@gmail.com, visiting facebook.com/pillows4puppies, or visiting ruffroadpetrescue.com.

As long as we’re on the topic of dogs, we’d love to have your submissions for our Priceless Pets Parade that will be inserted in the paper on Sept. 13. You can send photos of your dog, cat, bird, fish, hamster, snake, horse or any other pet you have — along with the pet’s name and your name — to news@suffolknewsherald.com by Sept. 8.

Everybody thinks their pet deserves to be on the front page every day, and this is your chance to get pretty close!
