Dr. Glenn DuBois, VCCS chancellor, left, and Dr. Hunter Boylan, right, congratulate Dr. Justin Oliver and Nancy Warren at a recent symposium.

Dr. Justin Oliver and Nancy Warren of Paul D. Camp Community College were recently recognized during the Virginia Community College System Developmental Education Symposium.

Oliver, who teaches math on the Hobbs Suffolk Campus, and Warren, who teaches English on the Franklin Campus, were awarded certificates of achievement for attending the inaugural session of the Chancellor’s Developmental Education Institute, offered by the VCCS in partnership with the National Center for Developmental Education. They were selected to attend last summer.

Warren, a Suffolk resident, has worked for PDCCC since 2001, teaching for nearly four years. She serves as chair of the Planning and Effectiveness Committee and coordinator of the ongoing Movie Night events.

In addition to teaching Developmental Writing, English Composition, American Literature and Children’s literature, she is taking graduate-level classes in English and communications at Old Dominion University and Spring Arbor University.

Oliver recently completed the Higher Education Administration Doctorate Program at Regent University and serves as the math redesign campus lead. Oliver began teaching as an adjunct faculty member in 1998. Hired as a full-time instructor in 2004, he teaches all developmental courses, math for liberal arts, pre-calculus and statistics.

The institute is aligned with the redesign efforts of the developmental education system and the VCCS Achieve 2015 strategic plan to enhance student success.

Selected to represent PDCCC at the 2nd Annual Chancellor’s Developmental Education Institute in June are Martha Kello, associate professor of early childhood development and developmental reading; Ray McDonald, adjunct instructor of mathematics; and Mary Ellen Gleason, adjunct instructor of English.
