Jenny Thomas won $100,000 from the Virginia Lottery on a scratcher ticket she bought at a store on East Washington Street.

Jenny Thomas was only joking when she bought a 10x the Money scratcher ticket from the Virginia Lottery and said, “This is my winning ticket right here!”

Or so she thought.

When Thomas scratched it, she quickly saw that it really was a winning ticket — and it was worth $100,000.

“I was hysterical!” she told Lottery officials as she claimed her prize. “I was so happy.”

She bought the ticket at Friendly Check Cashing at 212 E. Washington St. in Suffolk.

Thomas, who works in customer service, said she hopes to use her winnings to buy a car.

The 10x the Money game features prizes ranging from $5 all the way up to $100,000. This is the third top prize claimed in the game, which means two top-prize tickets remain unclaimed.
