The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the city of Suffolk and surrounding localities.
The weather service is predicting that rain will change to snow around 10 p.m. Thursday and begin to accumulate, bringing 1 to 2 inches of accumulation in Suffolk.
The snow will be heavy at times and create hazardous driving conditions, according to the advisory.
Depending on weather conditions existing in the early hours of Friday morning, delivery of the Suffolk News-Herald to newsstands could be delayed. Check back at www.suffolknewsherald.com throughout the evening on Thursday and on Friday for updates and breaking news.
In the event of significant accumulations of snow or ice, the Suffolk News-Herald office at 130 S. Saratoga St. in downtown Suffolk will open at 10 a.m. on Friday.
