Warriors make waves with wins

The Nansemond River High School swim teams won their last two meets of the regular season, against Indian River last Thursday and Lakeland on Saturday at the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club.

Against Indian River, the boys’ team won 120-49, and the girls’ team got its first win of the season, 98-72.

Freshman Logan Eubanks and sophomore Cody Edwards continued to set new school records for NR in the 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter freestyle, respectively. This time, Eubanks came in first in the meet after he whittled his time down to 1:08.16. Edwards also placed first, using a time of 5:04.26.

Eubanks had a 1:09.51 time in the 100-meter backstroke that earned him first place.

Tyler Till had a good meet, winning the 200-meter freestyle (2:24.48) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:03.89).

Robert Boswell rounded out the boys’ individual winners, taking the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:21.61.

The girls had three swimmers to place first individually: Jordan Stockman in the 200-meter freestyle (2:59.86), Kaitlyn Higgins in the 100-meter butterfly (1:39.07) and Sara Gallagher in the 400-meter freestyle (5:56.09).

Both teams had good representation in the relay events, as well. Kyle Cook, Boswell, Eubanks and Lonshakov led the third-seeded 200-meter medley relay to first place with a 2:08.66 time. The same group took the 200-meter freestyle relay to the top with a time of 1:52.24.

The 400-meter freestyle relay team registered a 4:22.25 time, good for first. The group included Till, Lonshakov, Edwards and Jacob Hopple.

The girls’ 400-meter freestyle relay featured Gallagher, Stockman, Higgins and Hayley Meyer winning in 5:29.11.

Nansemond River’s boys’ team finished 4-4 on the season while the girls’ team ended up 2-6.
