Paul D. Camp Community College has been awarded a $30,000 Higher Education Partnership grant from Dominion Virginia Power and its Foundation.

The college was awarded the grant to create a robotics and mechatronics laboratory to support current electronics programs. Also, it will allow the development of two new program offerings in robotics and mechatronics.

The college’s planned programs emphasize applied technology and lab-based learning, which makes the need for modern state-of-the-art equipment crucial.

“This grant will allow us to continue providing programs and training that prepare our students for available jobs in the work arena and meet the workforce needs of local businesses and industries,” said college president Paul Conco.

“As a community college, we are charged with providing technical level practitioners that will be in increasing demand in the decades ahead. Thanks to the generosity of the Dominion Foundation, we will be able to enhance and develop more programs for our students.”

Dominion Virginia Power Thomas F. Farrell II, chairman, president and chief executive officer said, “Technological advances in the fields of energy and protection of the environment are vital to the future of our youth. These grants will support teaching and training for the next generation.”

Dominion Higher Educational Partnership grants are for programs in business, skilled craft, engineering, environmental and technical studies and for student-led conservation programs in colleges, community colleges and post-secondary training schools.
