NRHS softball dominates Deep Creek

The Nansemond River High School softball team poured on 10 runs in the final three innings against host Deep Creek High School on Monday to win the regional quarterfinal 14-3.

“We were able to dictate our style of play,” NR head coach Gabe Rogers said, as his team created chaos on the bases.

Lady Warriors sophomore Lauren Maddrey had a fantastic game, improving to 17-2 on the mound, throwing seven strikeouts. At the plate, she went 3-for-4, with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Sophomore Calah Savage went 3-for-4, with two RBIs and two runs scored, junior Emily Carson went 2-for-3, with three RBIs and junior Morgan Lowers went 2-for-5, with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Freshman Katelyn Biando extended her streak to 22 consecutive games with a hit, and had two RBIs.

Nansemond River (20-2) visits Powhatan High School today. The winner qualifies for the state tournament.
