Registration open for before and after school programs

Even though local children are still enjoying the summer, it’s time for parents and caregivers to start thinking about childcare for the upcoming school year.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation will offer before and after school programs in recreation centers shared with Suffolk Public Schools beginning Sept. 2 at the following locations:

  • Booker T. Washington Recreation Center, 204 Walnut St.
  • Mack Benn Jr. Recreation Center, 1253 Nansemond Parkway
  • Kings Fork Recreation Center, 350 Kings Fork Road
  • Creekside Recreation Center, 1000 Bennetts Creek Park Road
  • Northern Shores Recreation Center, 6701 Respass Beach Road
  • Oakland Recreation Center, 5505 Godwin Blvd.

All students must be pre-registered. The one time non-refundable registration fee is $35 per child for all programs. Check, credit card or money orders are acceptable forms of payment. Registration can be completed at any of the listed joint use recreation centers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proof of age and residency is required at the time of registration.

KidZone is a quality, structured program for students ages 4 to 11. Four-year-olds must be enrolled in the school’s preschool or Early Start program. Before school care times are 6:30 to 9 a.m. After school program times are 3:30 to 6 p.m. KidZone Program attendance fees are:

  • Before school only: $90 per month, per child
  • After school only: $115 per month, per child
  • Before and after school: $190 per month, per child

Rec N Crew is an enrichment afterschool program designed for middle and high school students ages 11 to 17 years old and is held at King’s Fork Middle School only. The program runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Students participate in clubs, field trips and hands-on activities. Monthly attendance fees are $35 per child for after school only.
