NRHS DECA students scoop awards

Nansemond River High School DECA students returned from the District 21 Leadership Conference earlier this month with various first, second and third places.

At Chesapeake Square Mall, Nansemond River competed against Churchland, Franklin, I.C. Norcom, King’s Fork, Lakeland, Smithfield and Woodrow Wilson high schools.

In the Hotel and Lodging Management Series Event, Larry Goodman won first place in Pricing and Information Tech Applications, second place in Customer Relations, third place in Comprehensive Exam and was second overall.

In the Emotional Intelligence Event, Tala Hughes won first place in the Comprehensive Exam, Emotional Intelligence, Human Resource Management and first overall. Joshua George won second place in Comprehensive Exam, Emotional Intelligence and Human Resource Management, and was second overall.

In the Marketing Management Series Event, Bre’Aunna Rush won third place in the Comprehensive Exam, Economics and Product/Service Management. She was third overall.

In the Principles of Business Management and Administration Event, Ryan Fisher won first place in Comprehensive Exam, Communication Skills and overall.

In the Principles of Finance Event, Margaret Runyon won first place in Comprehensive Exam, Financial Analysis and overall, and Michael Collins won second place in each of those categories.

In the Principles of Marketing Event, Kiely Nolan won second place in Comprehensive Exam and third place in Emotional Intelligence Event. She was third overall.

In the Personal Financial Literacy Event, Matt Schatzel won second place in Comprehensive Exam and Communications Strategy, and was second overall, while Tyus Joyner won third place in each of those categories and was third overall.

In the job interview section, Diamond Parker won second place overall and Kean’ta Morton won fourth place overall.

In Social Media, Cydney Folson won first overall.
