A Suffolk mother and daughter(-in-law) team learned on Tuesday they weren’t among the 50 semi-finalists with a chance to see their Doritos commercial during the Super Bowl for the 10th — and final — edition of the chip company’s annual contest.

However, their budding video editing business is showing no signs of slowing down, said Cusi and Brittany Hamlin.

“It was a pleasure to be considered,” Cusi Hamlin said.

Video has been a hobby for both she and her daughter-in-law, Brittany Hamlin, for many years. Brittany Hamlin started doing video editing as a teen when she got her first camera, while her mother-in-law has been doing projects for school, church, family and friends during her spare time.

They recently decided to form a business out of the hobby, and the $1 million prize for the Doritos “Crash the Super Bowl” contest would have made their goal of starting the business debt-free a reality.

The Hamlins considered a lot of different ideas, most supplied by Brittany Hamlin’s dad, before finally settling on an “Antiques Roadshow” spoof.

The commercial they designed features Brittany removing a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos from a display box as she shows it to two suited men, who analyze the bag and the receipt, which shows it was purchased “at the beginning of football season.” The men wonder how the bag made it so long without being eaten.

They’re discussing how much it might bring at auction when the unexpected happens.

“We wanted to involve the kids,” Brittany Hamlin said. “People like kids.” Her daughter is featured in the commercial.

Brittany Hamlin — who has never eaten Doritos, because she is allergic to milk — said the commercial will help bring in business, even though it didn’t make the 50 finalists.

“In our business, we’re looking towards doing commercial work, so even if we don’t win, it’s something to put in our portfolio,” she said.

The two said their in-law relationship makes them somewhat of a unique team, but they get along and actually are currently living together.

“It’s easier when your business partner is in the same house,” Brittany Hamlin said.
