Audrey Newman Clements

Audrey Newman Clements, 87, passed away April 1, 2016, in Richmond. She was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Eclipse, the daughter of Everett Hale Newman and Annie Mae Martin and the youngest of four children. Audrey was predeceased by her two brothers, Everett and Staley; and a sister, Alese.

She graduated from Longwood College in 1948 and taught elementary education for 19 years. She was later employed by the Catholic Diocese of Richmond’s Education Department. In 1950, she married Charles Linwood Clements. He passed away in 1999.

Audrey is survived by a daughter, Rhonda (Brad) Wells; sons, Chas (Cindy) Clements, Tabb (Michelle) Clements, and Clark Clements; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Audrey was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church and a woman of great faith. Her many quiet acts of service were an inspiration to her family and friends.

The family wishes to express appreciation to Alberta Hannigan for her many years of friendship to Audrey. The family will receive family and friends at noon Friday, April 8, 2016, at Woody Funeral Home-Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. Her memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens will be at a later date.
