James Bryan Miller

James Bryan Miller, 24, of Newville, died Friday, August 27, 1999, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 30, 1999, at Old Center Methodist Church near Newville with the Rev. Jerry Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Methodist Church Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy officiating.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Miller, on October 30, 1998.

He was born in Germany and grew up in Henry County. He was a welder on construction work.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Miller of Newville; a son, Gunner Miller of Newville; grandmother, Mittie Miller of Newville; mother, Syrena Miller of Dothan; aunt and uncle, Howard and Jean Skeen of Newville; several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Old Center Methodist Church on Monday, August 30, 1999, prior to the service from 9-11 a.m.

Margene "Mee-Maw" Phillips

Margene "Mee-Maw" Phillips, 70, of Crestview, Florida, died at her residence on Sunday, July 18, 1999.

Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist Church of Garden City on Wednesday, July 21, 1999. Interment followed the funeral in the Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview, Florida. The Reverend Jim Skates officiated at the service. Arrangements and services were under the direction of the Whitehurst Funeral Home, 436 West James Lee Boulevard, Crestview.

She was born in Pike County, Alabama, on March 30, 1929, to Clarence Haley and Gladys Miller Grant, and had resided in the Northwest Florida area since 1973. She was a dedicated homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband of forty-four years of marriage, Charles S. Phillips, Sr.; son, Charles Stanley Phillips Jr.; daughters, Lisa Ann Phillips, Jeanie Dille of Tuscon, Ariz.; brothers, Clarence Haley Grant Jr. of Tuscaloosa; Edward Wayne Grant of Montgomery; and four grandchildren.

Adele Tate Johnston

Adele Tate Johnston, 85, of Troy, formerly of Brundidge, died Saturday, August 28, 1999, at Edge Regional Medical Center in Troy.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, August 30, 1999, at the Brundidge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Spikes officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Brundidge, Alabama, with Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Johnston of Troy; one daughter, Mrs. John A. (Bennie Carol) Botts of Batavia, Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 1999, at Skeen Funeral Home in Brundidge. The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service.
