Cheryl M. Gardner

Cheryl Marie Gardner, 42, of 303 Baker St., Suffolk, died Thursday, June 20, 2002.
She was a daughter of Shirley V. Dickens of Suffolk, and the late Willie Gardner.
Cheryl was a 1978 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, and was employed for 13 years by Sara Lee.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Eric Mountcastle, her daughter, Shanta Mountcastle, and her stepdaughter, Tara Taylor (Barry), all of Suffolk; her ex-husband, Ronald Mountcastle; three step-grandchildren, Kwanza, Najee and Cochita Taylor of Suffolk; one brother, Michael Gardner of Suffolk; three sisters, Francine Harrell of Chesapeake, Renee Folk (Ernest), and Tarshia Gardner of Suffolk; grandmother, Rose Marie P. Thurman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandfather, Mayfield Dickens of Suffolk; three aunts, Marva Spooner of Queens, N.Y., Mary Wall (Thurman) of the Bronx, N.Y., and Edith Porter of Suffolk; three uncles, Carl Spooner of Rosedale, N.Y., George Thurman of Atlanta, Ga., and William Harrell of Richmond; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Crocker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
Lawrence Edwards
Lawrence Edwards, 69, of the 3000 block of Berlin Dory Road, Sedley, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, in a Petersburg hospital.
A native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Augusta and Mamie Crocker Edwards, and the widower of Mary P. Edwards.
He was a veteran of the Army, and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor.
He is survived by two sisters, Daisy Gray of Sedley and Maize Gray of Wakefield; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Edwards of Waverly; a devoted niece, Mamie Barnes of Waverly; a devoted friend, Charlie Colbert of Zuni; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor, by the Rev. William T. Smith. Interment will be in the Edwards Family Cemetery.
