Willie J. Almond Sr.

Willie James &uot;Mickey&uot; Almond Sr., 62, of the 2500 block of Cedar Lake Drive, Suffolk, died Friday, June 28, 2002, in Obici Hospital.

He was a native of Nansemond County.

He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and attended Norfolk State University. He was employed for 41 years as a senior engineering analyst at Newport News Shipbuilding Co.

He was a member of New Mount Joy Family Worship Center, where he served as vice chairman of the Deacon Board Ministry, president of the W.P. Wiggins Gospel Choir, business manager of the First Senior Choir, business manager of The New Generation Choir, and a member of the Hospitality Committee. He was a member of the Suffolk District Deacon Ministry. He had 21 years of service with the Southeastern Football Officials Association.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia J. Almond; one son, Willie J. &uot;Jimmy&uot; Almond Jr., and his wife, Sonya, of Woodbridge; four daughters, Adriane A. Williams, and her husband, Darryl, Tenisha C. Almond, Katrina L. Almond of Suffolk, and Debbie Skinner of Franklin; his parents, Vandybe Almond Sr. and Addie O. Almond of Suffolk; four brothers, Vandybe &uot;Boo&uot; Almond Jr., and his wife, Jewell, of Cary, N.C., Earl &uot;Pete&uot; Almond of Norfolk, Calvin Almond and Alvin Almond, both of Suffolk; seven grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Susie Jackson of Suffolk; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in New Mt. Joy Family Worship Center by Dr. William P. Wiggins. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The body will be placed at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Contributions may be made to the New Mt. Joy Family Worship Center Building Fund in his memory. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Leonard Wiggins

Leonard &uot;Jackie&uot; Wiggins, 54, of 444 E. 36th St., Paterson, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in a Paterson hospital.

He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and a son of Lillie Mae Wiggins, and the late Willie Doss Wiggins.

He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1967. He then located to Paterson. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of a car wash for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Lillie Mae Wiggins Lee; a sister, Sharon Jones; brother-in-law, Willie Jones; a nephew, Jonathan Hunter of New Carrollton, Md.; a brother, Willie Vernard Wiggins; a sister-in-law, Carrie Wiggins; two nieces, Kara Wiggins and Schlonda Chavis of Suffolk; two loving daughters, Kendalyn Witherspoon and Antoinette Young; three grandchildren; and a very loving and dedicated friend, Louvinia Witherspoon of Paterson; and several cousins, related classmates and friends; and one very caring and dedicated cousin, Alfred Sweat of Paterson.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Luke Baptist Church, 139 Carroll St. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson.

There will be a wake from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Bragg Funeral Home, 256 Rosa Parks Blvd., Paterson. Peebles Funeral Home provided the details.
