A man accused of raping an 11-year-old Suffolk girl and videotaping the act was convicted Tuesday of possessing child pornography.
Eugene Ernest Griffin Jr., 40, of the 3800 block of East Greenway Court, Portsmouth, was sentenced to 12 months in jail and fined $2,500 on the misdemeanor charge. Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge William R. Moore Jr. ordered Griffin to have no contact with the victim or her family.
Griffin is also facing a string of felony charges related to the incident, including rape, aggravated sexual battery, producing child pornography and two counts each of forcible sodomy, object sexual penetration and taking indecent liberties with a child by a custodian. His court date for those charges is Sept. 16.
Griffin is charged with nine similar felonies against a 3-year-old girl in Portsmouth. He is scheduled to be tried Sept. 12 in that city.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Griffin pleaded guilty to the charge.
He is being held without bond in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
Suffolk police arrested Griffin on July 8 when a copy of the videotape was turned over to authorities.
